6th Grade Math Review: Day 8

Updated: Apr 24, 2020

In yesterday's post we reviewed how to create both graphs and stories for equations. If you weren't able to catch the live stream with the answers, you can watch it here. Today marks the 2/3 point of the review and, in part, discusses the last standard in Reporting Category 2 - Computations and Algebraic Relationships.

Solving One-Variable Equations and Inequalities

One very important 6th grade standard, a readiness standard that helps students get ready for the 7th grade, is all about solving one-variable, one-step equations using the properties of operations. Here's a video to help you master this important skill.

After learning about solving these simple equations and inequalities, you're ready to try these two problems from a 6th grade released STAAR test.

Using Values to Determine Equations and Inequalities

Sometimes students aren't supposed to solve problems and inequalities the traditional way. In some circumstances, they are given a series of values for an equation or inequality and asked to plug them in to check which one is true. In others, they will be asked to represent basic equations using pictorial representations, such as algebra tiles. Here's a quick video showing how that's done.

With this information about values and equations or inequalities, try your hand at this sample problem below.

Correct Answers Tonight (4/23/20) at 8:00 pm (CDT), I'll live stream from my YouTube channel to go over the answers to these three practice problems. Make sure you've already worked them out ahead of time. I can answer questions you might have in the stream chat and I'll put the recording on my channel and in this post for anyone that couldn't watch it live.

If you haven't done so already, you can subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon to get notifications for live streams and new videos that I post.

Here's the live stream with the answers and explanations.
