6th Grade Math Review: Day 12

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

In yesterday's post we reviewed spent quite a bit of time on learning different ways to describe data. If you missed the live stream with the answers, you can watch it here. Today we finish the entire 12-day review with another look at Reporting Category 4 - Data Analysis and Personal Financial Literacy. Remember that on Day 5 of the review we look at Personal Financial Literacy - College and Earning Levels.

Box Plots

This type of data representation is new for 6th graders. Sometimes called box-and-whisker plots, box plots are helpful for viewing the interquartile range, something learned yesterday. Here's a video dedicated just to making box plots.

With that reminder, why not try out this practice problem?

Line Plots and Stem-and-Leaf Plots

6th graders should be familiar with both dot plots, which they first learned about in 3rd grade, and stem-and-leaf plots, which they first learned about in 4th grade. Here's a refresher video about interpreting data from these two types of graphs.

Now you can try your luck with this STAAR released test question.

Personal Financial Literacy - Credit and Debit Cards

Finally, 6th graders are asked to learn quite a bit about debit and credit cards, especially how interest rates and fees affect credit card debt. Here's an explanation video to help with this concept.

Here's a practice problem that you can use to test your skill.

In addition to debit and credit cards, students in 6th grade also learn about checking accounts and how to balance a checkbook register.

Correct Answers Tonight (4/30/20) at 8:00 pm (CDT), I'll live stream from my YouTube channel to go over the answers to these three practice problems. Make sure you've already worked them out ahead of time. I can answer questions you might have in the stream chat and I'll put the recording on my channel and in this post for anyone that couldn't watch it live.

If you haven't done so already, you can subscribe to the channel and click the bell icon to get notifications for live streams and new videos that I post.

Here's the live stream with the answers and explanations.
