Describing 3D Shapes
Students have already learned a lot of formal geometric language before studying it again in the 3rd grade. Here's a short recap of the many terms that students should be familiar with.
With that in mind, try this geometry problem from a released STAAR test.
Quadrilaterals
Students might think that they already know everything about four-sided shapes but in 3rd grade they start classifying them by attributes. When that begins, they soon learn some strange things - like the fact that all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares!
The problem below is not as easy as it seems. Think carefully before answering.
