3rd Grade Math Review: Day 4

In yesterday's post we looked at comparing fractions, even and odd, and fractions on the number line (again). For the next five posts, we'll be spending time in the largest reporting category - computations and algebraic relationships. Today we look at the basic operations, addition and subtraction.

Subtracting Across Zeros

One of hardest computations for 3rd graders to master is borrowing, or regrouping, when subtracting. What makes it doubly difficult is when there are one or two zeros in the way. Watch the video to learn more.

Now that you've learned about subtracting across zeros, see if you can answer this related problem.

Addition Using Place Value

Students have been adding for several years now. In 3rd grade, the numbers simply get larger and problem situations include more than two addends. Watch the video below to learn about addition with an eye on place value..

That wasn't so hard, was it? Now that you've learned more about addition, try this problem from a released STAAR test.

Correct Answers Here's the video with the answers and explanations. Make sure you've worked them out on your own before watching it.
