Purpose: Teachers use a variety of strategies to build rich frameworks for understanding new vocabulary words

Format: 40-minute session (conference-style)

Outcomes: Attendees will:

  • Learn 7 strategies for teaching new vocabulary words

  • Explore how use multiple strategies together to create robust word-learning experiences

  • Create a script for a vocabulary word in an upcoming lesson

Format: 40-minute session (conference-style)

Outcomes: Attendees will:

  • Associate new vocabulary words to known semantic domains

  • Build models of new terms to display categorical and semantic relationships

  • Create synonym webs to categorize new words

Processing new vocabulary words

Purpose: Teachers use different activities to process new vocabulary words within formal and informal structures

Format: 40-minute session (conference-style)

Outcomes: Attendees will:

  • Refine their thinking about new vocabulary words through peer interactions

  • Create a complex understanding of new terms through collective processing

  • Explore additional word connections in a game-like atmosphere

Cost

Minimum training: 1 day
